Sheltered Accommodation Programme
In August 2016 we were awarded £2,000 by the East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (ELCCG) to run a 'pilot' programme in sheltered accommodation centres in Hyndburn.
The aim of the programme was to run fun and educational sessions with residents looking at ways of eating more healthily. This included a balanced diet, basic cooking sessions, reducing salt, increasing water intake etc. All run in a fun way by our sessional workers Elaine and Anita.
The pilot sessions took place between August 2016 and March 2017 at:
- Banbury Close (Church)
- Friar Court (Accrington)
- Merlin Court (Oswaldtwistle), and
- Edward Lion Court (Church)
Following on from the pilot we approached the Hyndburn & Ribble Valley CVS for more funds to run a wider programme and were successful with an application for £3,653, again from the ELCCG.
The additional funding helped pay for sessional workers to run more sessions at centres and we were able to cover additional centres in Accrington, Oswaldtwistle and Great Harwood. These included:
- Merlin Court (Oswaldtwistle)
- Edward Lion Court (Church)
- Friar Court (Accrington)
- Lyndon House (Great Harwood)
- Netherton House (Great Harwood); and
- Abbeyfield Care Home, Oak Hill Park (Accrington)
The majority of the centres were run by Hyndburn Homes and we are extremely grateful to Elaine Embley for her support throughout the programme. We'd also like to thank the centre managers and of course the wonderful residents who made it so much fun for Katy, Elaine and Anita.
We'd also like to thank the CVS for helping us secure the funding and of course, we'd like to thank the East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group for the grant funding.
